By using these platforms and our expertise, clients’ new products can arrive at the marketplace faster and at less cost.

Medical Device Controller Platform

We have developed versatile computer control and display subsystems that can be modified to suit various medical applications. Unlike most off-the-shelf applications, ours are designed for medical products and can be fully validated for use in critical medical devices.

Many of our designs require similar user interfaces and features: LCD, touch screens, numeric displays, membrane/foot switches, basic regulatory safety solutions, field upgradeable software, and the ability to easily add languages for portability to other countries. We have developed and produced a family of general embedded controller designs, based on the ARM series of processors. The Medical Device Controller (MDC) family supports required features with a set of software modules on which we build your custom applications. We configure the MDC for each application and customize the packaging design for each client.

Features of our MDC platform include:

  • State-of-the-art CPU and field-programmable gate array / FPGA
  • User interfaces—LCD, touch screen, knob, and keypad
  • High-resolution embedded graphics with 16-bit color depths
  • Ethernet, USB, and high-speed synchronous serial interfaces
  • Flash, SDRAM, battery backed nonvolatile memory and real time clock
  • Alarms compliant with IEC 60601-1-8
  • Multilanguage capability including Unicode fonts
  • Built-in sophisticated watchdog and power fail circuitry
  • Software that is flexible and adaptable for various display, control, and communications applications and that can be verified and validated per FDA guidance

RF Generator Platform

We have developed a number of RF generator systems for use in ablation and electrosurgery. These have ranged from 400kHz to 10MHz in frequency and 150W to 1,500W in maximum output power. All share very high efficiency power output stages with a high dynamic output power range capability. We are able to measure incident and reflected power very accurately and precisely control the power to the load.

Examples of our RF generator platform applications include:

  • An ablation device to eliminate atrial fibrillation that applies focused ultrasound energy directly to the heart muscle
  • An esophageal ablation device to eliminate pre-cancerous tissue
  • An electrosurgical device with bipolar and monopolar modes

Pumps and Disposables Platform

We have a proven track record developing custom peristaltic and diaphragm pumps and their associated disposables. The pumps have been used in various applications, such as blood collection and processing systems, kidney dialysis machines, surgical systems, and in-vitro diagnostic systems.

Examples of our pump and disposable technology include:

  • A quadruple peristaltic pump with a single disposable manifold incorporating four peristaltic pump segments , integral valves, and sensors for temperature, pressure, pH, and color
  • Completely automated peristaltic pump and cartridge requiring no action from the user after cassette insertion
  • Disposable microfludic cartridge incorporating a miniature diaphragm pump and genetic sensors
  • Four-segment, low hemolysis peristaltic pumps and cartridges for pumping blood and blood components
